As you probably already know, the new Collective Bargaining Agreement
requires all faculty to have all courses evaluated and to include those
course evaluations in reviews. This is a fairly significant change for both
the faculty and the administration, and both sides are working hard to make
the transition a smooth one and to make sure that no one is affected
adversely by this change. Here are a few things to keep in mind about this
change:
1. Faculty reviewed this year, and for a few years to come, will obviously
not be expected to provide evaluations for all courses taught during the
review period. The requirement to evaluate all courses begins this fall.
2. There will be a significant increase in the number of evaluation orders,
which will significantly increase the Testing Center workload. The staff in
the Testing Center have committed to making sure that everyone receives
their evaluation forms in a timely way, but they need our help. FACULTY
SHOULD MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ORDER THEIR EVALUATIONS BY MID-QUARTER.
3. This is a new thing and, as with all the new things in the Collective
Bargaining Agreement, it will take a little time to work out all the
details. The faculty, the administration and the Testing Center are all
working hard to make sure the transition goes as smoothly as possible. Both
the UFWW and the administration have committed to making sure that any
technical difficulties that arise do not materially affect any faculty
reviews.
The UFWW, the Faculty Senate and the Testing Center have begun to explore
ways to make the ordering and delivery of teaching evaluations easier and
less labor-intensive. We very much appreciate the openness and
thoughtfulness with which all of the Testing Center staff have approached
this project.
